Fundraising Policy:
British and Caribbean Veterans Association (hereinafter referred to as 'the charity’)
Fundraising Policy                           To be reviewed September 2020

Our members, and supporters are at the heart of everything we do, enabling us to provide support for the Armed Forces community – serving and ex-serving personnel and their dependents
Supporting us should be an activity well worth doing. We comply with the key principles of the Fundraising Regulator in their Fundraising Promise:
The charity will commit to high standards
The charity will adhere to the Fundraising Code of Practice (effective October 2019) The charity will monitor all fundraisers helping us to raise funds, to ensure that they comply with the Code of Fundraising Practice and with this Promise.
The charity will comply with the law as it applies to charities and fundraising.
The charity will be clear, honest and open
The charity will tell the truth and the charity will not exaggerate.
The charity will do what we say we are going to do with donations we receive.
The charity will be clear about who we are and what we do.
The charity will give a clear explanation of how you can make a gift.
The charity will not ask a third party to fundraise on our behalf nor use professional fundraisers.
The charity will be able to explain our fundraising costs and show how they are in the best interests of our cause if challenged.
The charity will ensure our complaints process is clear and easily accessible.
The charity will provide clear and evidence-based reasons for our decisions on complaints. The charity will be respectful
The charity will respect your rights and privacy.
The charity will not put undue pressure on you to make a gift. If you do not want to give or wish to cease giving, the charity will respect your decision.
The charity will have a procedure for dealing with people in vulnerable circumstances and it will be available on request. Where the law requires, the charity will get your consent before we contact you to fundraise. If you tell us that you do not want us to contact you in a particular way the charity will not do so
The charity will be fair and reasonable
The charity will treat donors and the public fairly, showing sensitivity and adapting our approach depending on your needs.
The charity will take care not to use any images or words that intentionally cause distress or anxiety. The charity will take care not to cause nuisance or disruption to the public. The charity will be accountable and responsible
The charity will manage our resources responsibly and consider the impact of our fundraising on our donors, supporters and the wider public.
If you are unhappy with anything we have done whilst fundraising, you can contact us to make a complaint.
The charity will listen to feedback and respond appropriately to compliments and criticism we receive.
The charity will have a complaints procedure, a copy of which will be available on request. Our complaints procedure will let you know how to contact the Fundraising Regulator in the event that you feel our response is unsatisfactory.
The charity will monitor and record the number of complaints we receive each year and share this data with the Fundraising Regulator on request.

Internal Financial Controls Policy:​

British and Caribbean veterans Association Internal Financial controls Policy    to be reviewed September 2020 
 
Trustees have legal responsibilities to keep accounting records, and to prepare an annual report and accounts with the appropriate level of external scrutiny. Trustees must also safeguard their charity’s assets and take steps to ensure the charity is protected against financial abuse. Accounting records must be kept for at least six years  
Trustees have a number of legal duties that must be met in relation to accounting and financial reporting. These include:  
 
• We Will keep ‘sufficient’ accounting records to explain all transactions and show the charity’s financial position  
•We Will prepare an annual report and statutory accounts meeting legal requirements  
• We will consider the need for a reserves policy, managing the level of reserves held and the disclosure of any reserves policy in the Trustees’ Annual Report 
 • We will formally approve the Trustees’ Annual Report and accounts  
• We will ensure that accounts are subjected to any external scrutiny required by law or by the charity’s governing document  
• we will ensure that the Trustees’ Annual Report, accounts and annual return are filed on time with the commission where filing is required. 
• We will meet requests from the public for copies of the charity’s most recent trustees’ annual report and accounts  
• We will safeguard the assets of the charity and ensuring proper application of resources  
• We will take steps for the prevention and detection of bribery, fraud, financial abuse and other irregularities  
New trustees will be given a copy of the latest statement of accounts on appointment, together with other essential Policies and procedures, the Internal financial controls policy, safeguarding vulnerable adults policy and procedure and the fundraising policy, the responsibilities of trustees and the governing document.
